Your unborn baby IS being polluted during pregnancy
As Mums we want what is best for our children, we protect, nurture and love them and this doesn't just start the day they are born. It starts from the very moment we discover our precious baby is growing inside of us.
But what if I told you that your baby was being polluted during pregnancy?
The umbilical cord that joins us to our unborn baby pulses with the equivalent of at least 300 quarts of blood each day, pumped back and forth from the nutrient- and oxygen-rich placenta to our growing baby cradled in a sac of amniotic fluid. This cord is a lifeline between you and your baby, bearing nutrients that sustain life and propel growth.
A study BODY BURDEN: THE POLLUTION IN NEWBORNS conducted in 2005 by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in collaboration with Commonweal, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S. hospitals. Tests revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group.
Of the 287 chemicals they detected in umbilical cord blood, 180 can cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. The dangers of pre- or post-natal exposure to this complex mixture of carcinogens, developmental toxins and neurotoxins have never been studied.
Our skins are the largest organs we have!! It is amazing! Our skin protects us and can absorb up to 60% of what we feed it topically, this is a huge benefit to help us be able to feed it with products that can help us heal from the outside in.
So this is what brings me to my first question....
Us mums are protective and caring of our offspring. We question everything regarding our children, education, food, etc and yet we still are continuing to apply and expose ourselves and our unborn children to products that contain these chemicals and not question it?
Daily women feed their skin with products jammed packed with ingredients that can cause us harm our babies and our unborn children??
Products such as :-
Stretch mark creams or oils
Nappy rash cream
These products contain ingredients that can cause and are linked to :-
interference male reproduction functions
developmental defects & changes to testes, prostatae and reduce sperm count
Some of these ingredients are:-
DBP- (also know as) Dibutyl Phthalate, Fragrance, PVC, DEP, parfum
DEA- (also know as) Diethanolamine, cocamide DEA, Lauramide DEA
Mineral oil - (also know as) paraffin

Talc although related to asbestos and has long been argued that is a potential carcinogenic is still used in many products such as deodorants, make-up, chalk, crayons and baby products. Recently Johnsons & Johnsons was ordered to pay $110 million after a US lady took them to court claiming their Talcum powder caused her ovarian cancer. And this is just the beginning with over 3000 lawsuits in progress.
Triclosan is a ingredient used as a preservative, antibacterial agent and antimicrobial it is found in products such as toothpaste, antibacterial products including soaps, cleaners etc. antibacterial wipes and sanitisers, deodorants, tissues, laundry powder, toys, clothing and more.
Triclosan has been linked with endocrine disruption, immune system assault, thyroid disruption, antibiotic resistance etc.
Recently the FDA ruled that Companies will no longer be able to market antibacterial washes with these ingredients because manufacturers did not demonstrate that the ingredients are both safe for long-term daily use and more effective than plain soap and water in preventing illness and the spread of certain infections. This is great however it is only regulated to hand washes and can still be used in all other products.
Sadly Australia has no ban on either of these ingredients and they are being continued to be used in many products that YOU are being exposed to, and absorbing everyday.
What can YOU do?
Check ingredient labels!! Choose a product with the least amount of ingredients, if you are unsure what the ingredient is, look it up.
If there are no ingredients listed or only the "Active ingredients" then contact the manufacturer to check if they won't indulge than look elsewhere... DO NOT take thier word for it.
